Ambient Noise Monitoring for Nodal Seismic Operations

Since the advent of nodal seismic recording systems the monitoring of ambient noise levels has been a concern, as real-time data is not observed. One solution has been to deploy traditional cable-based noise monitoring lines, however this is both expensive and has limited spatial coverage. RemEX can provide a cable-free ambient noise monitoring system which complements nodal data acquisition and provides real-time monitoring sampled across the whole active spread.

Each Ambient Noise Monitor (ANM) averages the RMS noise from a standard geophone via a KCK connector. Every 60 seconds it averages the noise over a 6 second period, and uploads this average to the Command and Control, which displays it as a coloured circle. A traffic light system from green through to red provides a visual indication of the noise level at each ANM location on the map.
